About Dry Spell
What began as just another long stretch of hours in the parched and daredevil fall of 2006, when he was too young to leave home, but too old to stay home — Nate Simmons said no. Bolstered by the thrill of defiance, he barrels down a path that forever changes two households.
His mother, Eileen Simmons, skillful at successfully managing her family, from her professor husband to her four offspring, must confront letting go — of her children, perfection, and the hope for true fulfillment.
Around the courner, Maggie Bliss fights to hold on to her legacy — her grandmother’s house and her Gullah healing practices. Her daughter Bella, however, believes it is time for Maggie to move to assisted living.
As the Bliss and Simmons’ households entangle during the unrelenting drought, Dry Spell uncovers the linked fates of small town families and the perils of conflicting expectations
Murder in Milan
Murder In Milan* by Avery Caswell
Murder in Milan is the story of Vanne Smith, a dog-over-cat, pie-over-cake, chemist on the run. During a brief stop in Milan, Ohio, she discovers that successfully disappearing requires more than changing your name and leaving behind every single thing you ever owned—or loved. In the midst of multiple murders, Vanne learns that successfully disappearing also requires trust—and that sometimes cats aren’t all bad. Award-winning author Avery Caswell, an avowed cat person, loves to bake and is thrilled that her latest book comes with a beautiful pie server and delicious baked goods, just like her characters enjoy in Milan (Ohio).
