Mike lives in Colorado, under the shadow of Long’s Peak (elevation 14,259 ft). After grad school and a stint in Viet Nam for the US Army, Mike pursued a career in business. He worked for large corporations for a while. Then he succumbed to the mysterious urge to work 60 hours per week with no guarantees of any income, no paid holidays or sick days, no health insurance, and no expense account, and started up several small businesses. His serial entrepreneurial scorecard was three wins, two losses and one tie. (The tie was the most fun of them all — next to writing.)
About Rocky Mountain Heist
Set against the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains, an enigmatic train conductor pulls off the crime of the century in 1911, creating a mystery that takes more than a century to unravel.
Across the generations, men have something to gain and even more to lose as they struggle with issues surrounding the horrific treatment of indigenous people during the Civil War to modern day problems such as affordable housing.
Mike King’s tale of high adventure begins aboard the California Flyer, an express train, where a freight conductor puts a daring plan into motion then executes it with meticulous accuracy.
Simultaneously, King takes you high into the mountains on the backs of Harleys and beemers as upstart property developer Jake Mazurek, determined to prove himself, sets his mind on acquiring land owned by Franklin Turner who is equally determined not to sell. Motorcycle challenges described with pinpoint accuracy set the scene for a contentious relationship between the two men.
Mazurek doggedly unravels the history surrounding Colorado’s first gas station, which sits on Turner’s property, and the secrets it may hide.
Cross and double cross’ stealing is a challenge; reaping the reward proves to be even harder.
